Screen printing has been around since the Egyptians. However, the commercial use of screen printing began in 1915 in San Francisco and Los Angeles. During the Arts and Crafts movement in California, commercial screen printing inventions and patents blossomed which changed the world and the way graphic arts was perceived and how new printing technology allowed mass distribution of short run, point of purchase posters and displays. This photo was taken at the last remaining (original) pioneer in the commercial screen printing industry. A company called Vitachrome now located in Santa Fe Springs, California.
