As My wife starts Steinbeck's novel, I find her fast asleep on the couch. I am reminded of the story of Good and Evil, Black & White, the story of Cain and Abel. And so begins an exploration of the perils of two families in the Salinas Valley. I'll let you know if she ever completes reading this novel.
